Special Education

Individuals with special needs require their own unique programs and therapies to develop their physical, cognitive and communication skills. Our special education program also helps to groom their social, emotional, adaptive and self-help skills. The curriculum includes languages, math, environmental studies, art, yoga, and activities of daily living including culinary skills. A trained team of special educators, therapists and creative teachers devise and execute these individualized programs. Our trainers are also well versed with Indian sign language.

Sensory experiences include touch, movement, body awareness, sight, sound, smell, taste and the pull of gravity. The process of the brain organizing and interpreting this information is called Sensory Integration (SI). It provides a crucial foundation for more complex learning and behaviors. At our center, we help the child to engage in organized sensory experiences (e.g. jumping, climbing, pushing, and pulling) and address skills such as bilateral coordination, crossing midline, and trunk control to help strengthen his/her ability to participate in sensory and motor activities. We have an experienced Occupational therapist who conducts these sessions.

Speech Therapy

We work with children who have difficulty reading everyday cues, interpreting others, and using words and body language to communicate effectively and develop friendships. We focus on improving their speech and abilities to understand and express language, including non-verbal communication, under the guidance of a specialized speech therapist.

Our program aims at understanding the reason for the behavior of individuals with special needs, rather than judging the individual or the behavior directly. This helps to improve communication and skills such as social, self-help, motor, adaptive and academic, based on age-appropriate developmental milestones. Each child receives an individualized program with learning objectives to reflect their unique strengths and needs.

Behavior Management

Remedial Education

Remedial programs are designed to close the gap between what a student knows and what he/she is expected to know age appropriately. Our remedial education identifies the limitations of each student and specifically addresses them with specialized techniques and teaching aids. We are a NIOS OBE affiliated center.

Activities of Daily Living (ADL) are a series of basic activities performed by individuals on a daily basis, necessary for independent living at home or in the community. At our center, we assess every child and devise an Individual Education Program (IEP), with a focus on ADL / Self-care activities as a preliminary goal for every special child.

Play Therapy

Often children communicate their thoughts and feelings more naturally through play, rather than by verbal communication. We recognize themes, patterns and ways of using materials through play therapy that are important to the child. Play therapy has been proven to be extremely effective in developing a child’s social integration and behavioral skills.

Our center provides a streamlined process of assessment of the child first, to understand his/her exact needs. Accordingly, a program is tailor-made to suit the child. We also counsel parents and individuals working/living with them, with a view to equip them to better manage their children.

Pre-Vocational & Vocational Training

Prevocational training in an integrated environment is important for children and adults with special educational needs as it gives them the possibility to avoid social exclusion and discrimination. We have developed a Vocational Centre specifically for individuals requiring additional assistance with daily living, self-help, socialization and communication skills. Our primary goal is to prepare these special children and adults with disabilities for LIFE. Children at our vocational center make envelopes, paper bags, paper pouches, bookmarks, artificial jewellery, decorative items, rakhis, and diya’s. We have also started a tailoring unit to teach stitching.

Self Advocacy is about people with intellectual and developmental disabilities working together for justice by helping each other to take charge of their lives and fighting discrimination. They support each other and help each other to gain the confidence to speak out for what they believe in. By giving them this opportunity, they gain self-awareness, collective action and collaborative mutual support, leading to transformation from marginalized people to Respectable Citizens We at Amba Angels promote this concept and We strongly believe in “Together We Can Rise and Shine” and “Nothing about US without US
